Daily Walk Reflection — “A Time for This and a Time for That”

Daily Walk Reflection — “A Time for This and a Time for That”

This morning’s walk began a little later than usual at 7:40am. The weather was completely different from yesterday’s bright sunshine — overcast skies, light rain, and a cool grey drizzle settling over the lake. It immediately brought to mind the famous hadith of Sahih al-Bukhari regarding balance in life, where the Prophet ﷺ taught that there is a time for this and a time for that — times of seriousness and worship, and times of relaxation and ease. Just as the weather changes from sunshine to rain, our days, moods and circumstances also change by the decree of Allah.

The walk itself felt calmer and slower because of the rain. Along the route I noticed an advert for Signature Meals at Saigon Coffee — the Nasi Daging Salai Masak Lemak for RM14.90 sounded absolutely delicious, especially on a cool rainy morning like this.

I stopped several times to capture the atmosphere — dull grey skies, misty drizzle over the water, and the peaceful stillness that rainy mornings bring. One sign reminded visitors that drones were not allowed around the lake, while another pointed out a “Photo Opportunity” area. Even on gloomy mornings, there is beauty waiting to be noticed.

Further along the path were the bright yellow pay-per-use e-bikes and a poster advertising the “Joy Cruiser.” The contrast between the colourful signs and the grey weather was striking.

Wildlife made another appearance today too. I spotted two monitor lizards — one huge one early in the walk, then a smaller one around the halfway mark. Seeing them moving silently through the wet surroundings reminded me again how alive and active Allah’s creation is, even in rain that many people would complain about.

One interesting sign showed that 5.5KM of walking equals around 320 calories — roughly the same as a 100g plate of chips. A simple reminder that consistent small efforts add up over time, whether physically or spiritually.

On the return journey, I recorded a video of the fountain area opposite the royal grounds near the lake.

Near the end of the walk, I passed a large group of gardeners gathering for their morning briefing before beginning work. It was a nice reminder of how many unseen people quietly contribute to maintaining these beautiful public spaces that we often take for granted.

To finish the walk, I had a hot Americano — the perfect ending after the cold rainy weather, warming up both body and mind.

Reflection

Rainy mornings can feel slower, quieter, and even a little gloomy — yet they often create the most reflective walks. Yesterday was sunshine; today was drizzle. A time for brightness and energy, and a time for calmness and reflection.

Allah changes the skies above us just as He changes the conditions of our lives.

“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.”
— The Qur’an

Not every day is meant to feel the same. Some days are for strength and productivity, while others are for slowing down, reflecting, and simply appreciating the mercy of Allah in the rain, the quiet paths, and even a warm coffee at the end of a walk.
