First Daily Walk of June 2026

“And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the diversity of your languages and colours. Indeed in that are signs for those of knowledge.” (Qur’an 30:22)
The first daily walk of June began at 7:30 a.m. under clear morning skies. Today, it was the three of us walking together, as our daughter had the day off university and was able to join us for the full walk.
As we set off she showed me a fascinating plant known as Mimosa pudica, commonly called the Sensitive Plant or Touch-Me-Not Plant. When touched, its leaves immediately fold inward and close up before gradually reopening a few minutes later. It was a wonderful reminder that even the smallest creations of Allah possess remarkable qualities and behaviours that many of us pass by without noticing. I recorded a short video which I will share alongside this post.
As we continued around the lake, we spotted a large monitor lizard swimming away with something in its mouth. It disappeared quickly into the water before we could identify its catch.
A little further on, we noticed a strong unpleasant smell coming from the grass. Upon investigation, we discovered a dead fish. Several crows had gathered around it and were feeding. Nature often reminds us of the cycle of life and death that Allah has placed within His creation. What appears unpleasant to one creature becomes sustenance for another.
We crossed the new bridge and walked past the Steel Mosque. The morning light reflected beautifully across the water, and I took a video of the waterfall flowing beside the mosque. The peaceful sound of moving water created a moment of calm reflection amidst the activity of the morning.
By 9:32 a.m., we arrived at Q Bistro for breakfast.
Today’s breakfast consisted of:
- Roti canai with egg in the middle for me.
- Nasi lemak for my daughter.
- Half-boiled eggs for my wife.
- A hot cup of Cham, a traditional drink combining tea and coffee, which was my first for quite some time.
After breakfast, we began our journey home. Looking up, we noticed an unusual sight: eight helicopters flying in formation across the sky, seemingly conducting a practice exercise. Their precision and coordination were impressive to watch.
As we approached the final bridge on our route home, we discovered a concerning hazard. There was a noticeable hole in the bridge decking which could easily cause injury to pedestrians, particularly children, cyclists, or anyone not paying close attention. Hopefully, the relevant authorities will address this issue before an accident occurs.
With that, the first daily walk of June came to an end.
Reflection
What stood out most today was how many signs of Allah we encountered during a simple morning walk.
A plant that closes when touched.
A reptile moving silently through the water.
Birds feeding from what others would avoid.
Flowing water beside a mosque.
Aircraft moving in perfect formation across the sky.
Each scene carried a lesson for those willing to reflect.
Allah says:
“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for people of understanding.” (Qur’an 3:190)
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“There is a reward for serving every living creature.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
The great scholar Al-Hasan al-Basri رحمه الله said:
“Reflect upon Allah’s blessings, for reflection invites gratitude.”
Today’s walk was a reminder that gratitude does not require extraordinary events. It grows from noticing the countless signs of Allah that surround us every day.
Alhamdulillah for another morning, another walk, and another opportunity to witness His creation.
