Daily Walk Reflection – Saturday, 30th May, 11:00 AM
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.
Today’s walk was not an expedition through mountains, forests, or distant lands. It was a simple journey from Tamara Residence to Zeus Coffee to collect an iced Americano. Yet, as is often the case in life, the most ordinary journeys can carry the most meaningful lessons.
The morning was warm and calm. The streets were familiar, and there was nothing particularly remarkable about the route. I set out with a straightforward objective: a short walk, a little exercise, and a coffee. However, Allah often places blessings in places we do not expect, and He teaches us lessons through the smallest of encounters.

As I approached Zeus Coffee, I noticed a food truck parked opposite. It was Shan’s Food Truck, and the staff were offering free samples to passers-by. Curious, I walked over and struck up a conversation with one of the brothers working there.
He greeted me warmly and explained that they were preparing biryani. The food was not yet ready, but he smiled and said that if I returned in about an hour, the biryani would be finished and I would be welcome to try it as a complimentary sample.
There was something refreshing about the interaction. No pressure, no sales pitch, no expectation—just a genuine invitation and a spirit of generosity. In a world where many interactions are purely transactional, this simple act of hospitality stood out.
As I continued reflecting on the encounter, I was reminded of the words of Allah:
“And whatever good you put forward for yourselves—you will find it with Allah. It is better and greater in reward.”
(Surah Al-Muzzammil 73:20)
The brother serving at the food truck may have viewed his gesture as something small—a free sample of biryani and a friendly conversation. Yet in the sight of Allah, small acts of kindness can become mountains of reward when accompanied by sincerity.
I was also reminded of the saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
“Do not belittle any good deed, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face.”
(Sahih Muslim)
This hadith teaches that goodness is not measured solely by the size of the action. A smile, a kind word, an invitation, a greeting, or a small act of generosity can all become sources of immense reward. The cheerful manner of the brother at the food truck embodied this prophetic teaching beautifully.
The Salaf understood this principle deeply. It is reported from the noble scholar and Imam, Al-Hasan Al-Basri رحمه الله, that he would encourage people not to underestimate small acts of righteousness, for a person does not know which deed Allah will accept and make the cause of their salvation.
Likewise, the early Muslims were known for their generosity and hospitality. They understood that feeding others, welcoming guests, and showing kindness to strangers were not merely social customs but acts of worship performed for the sake of Allah.
Reflecting further, I realized that this encounter was a reminder that provision (rizq) comes from Allah in many forms. Sometimes provision is wealth. Sometimes it is health. Sometimes it is beneficial knowledge. Sometimes it is an unexpected opportunity. And sometimes it is simply the joy that comes from meeting good-hearted people.
Had I decided not to take the walk, I would have missed this interaction entirely. It reinforced the value of leaving the house, moving the body, engaging with the community, and remaining open to the blessings Allah places along our path.
The walk itself was short, but the lesson was much larger.
An iced Americano was the destination, but kindness was the real takeaway.
As I returned home, I found myself grateful not only for the exercise and the coffee but also for the reminder that goodness still exists in abundance. Every smile, every kind word, every act of generosity is a reflection of the mercy that Allah allows His servants to share with one another.
May Allah reward the brothers at Shan’s Food Truck for their hospitality, place barakah in their business, and make us among those who recognise and appreciate the countless blessings hidden within the ordinary moments of everyday life.
And Allah knows best.
