Reflecting on the Signs of Allah: Mushrooms, Rowers & a Morning Walk
Today we completed a 3.5 km walk and finished with a hot Americano from ZUS Coffee.
Along the path we noticed several mushrooms growing in the grass. Although they looked interesting, we did not know whether they were safe to eat, so we left them where they were. It was a reminder that Allah has provided many things for mankind, but He has also commanded us to seek knowledge and avoid harm.
Later, we watched rowing teams training on the water. A support boat followed alongside while a lady encouraged the rowers in Chinese. It was fascinating to see how every rower moved in unison. If even one person lost rhythm, the whole boat would be affected. It reminded us that guidance, discipline and teamwork are essential for success, whether in worldly affairs or in our journey towards Allah.
Allah says:
“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day are signs for those of understanding.” (Qur’an 3:190)
The Companion Abdullah ibn Abbas said regarding this verse:
“Woe to the one who recites it and does not reflect upon it.”
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“There are two blessings which many people waste: health and free time.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
A morning walk is a reminder of both. The ability to walk, observe, reflect and enjoy a simple cup of coffee afterwards is a blessing that can easily be taken for granted.
Distance walked: 3.5 km
Reflection: The believer does not merely look at creation; he looks through it, seeing the signs that point him back to his Creator.
